If you're an ES Admin, you might have seen some staff or students marked as "soft-deleted". What does that mean and how can you change that status?
What It Means
The term soft-deleted indicates that the user is viewed as deleted, even though they are still in the application. This is different from a hard-delete; where the user's records are actually removed from the system.
The status of "soft-deleted" indicates that the last time an update was done either via a Classlink file or via Clever, the user wasn't part of the data. This can happen for many reasons. The user might have been removed from your SIS. There might have been an issue syncing with Classlink or Clever.
For all those reasons, instead of deleting a user when they aren't found during an update, we mark them as "soft-deleted". In the case of the staffer, any future appointments are cleared. The same is true for students. However, their history is maintained! So if the user is still part of the school, all of the appointment history associated with that user will still be in the system when they are reactivated.
How Is A User Reactivated
There are 2 ways a user can be reactivated.
One way is that when, if data is imported again and the user is found in the import, they will be reactivated.
But if for some reason this doesn't happen, you can use the Manage Soft-Deleted Users page. This will show you soft-deleted users split by Staff and Students. You can choose to reactivate a user on this page, or check the box to ignore them the next time data is imported. This means they won't be reactivated.
