To create a bell schedule, first make sure you have at least one day type set up on the Day Types page. Learn more about day types and bell schedules here. In this article, you will learn how to set up a bell schedule for your school. This will allow you to set when passes can be issued.
Create a Bell Schedule
Go to the Admin > Manage Bell Schedule page. From there, click the Create Bell Schedule button.
There are only two values that are needed to start creating the Bell Schedule, a Name and the Day type. The name of the bell schedule should make it easy for you and other admins to identify. For example, is it the daily schedule, an early release schedule, your A or B Day schedule? Once you have added the same, select the corresponding Day Type from the dropdown, and click Save.
Adding Periods
Once the Bell Schedule has been created, you can start adding periods. On the Create Bell Schedule page, once you have added the name and day type, you will see an Add Period button at the top right of the page.
From here, follow these steps:
- Select the SIS Period.
- Set the Start and End times for the period.
- Additionally, if your school is using Student Pass, you have the option of limiting when student passes can be issued. Check the Limit When Passes Can Be Issued? box. Choose a start and end time for when passes can be allowed during this time. By default, passes can be issued any time. So to limit this, set a start and end time within the period. For example if your period is from 8 AM to 9 AM and you don't want passes to be made during the first and last 5 minutes, set these times to 8:05 AM and 8:55 AM.
Save the record and repeat until all the periods for a Bell Schedule have been created. You can edit the schedule at any time on the Manage Bell Schedules page. Select Actions > Edit next to the bell schedule name, or next to a period name, to edit the schedule or individual periods.
Below, we'll look at an example of how Bell Schedules with different periods and day types could be set up in Enriching Students.
Example
How could a school with a rotating schedule use this feature? Let's say a school has a total of 7 periods, but they only use five periods each day. They are on a three day rotation, A, B & C day.
For the A day, an admin would:
- Create an A day Bell Schedule
- Set up Periods 1 - 5 with the correct start and end times
- Periods 6 & 7 are not used for the A day Bell Schedule
For the B day, an admin would:
- Create an B day Bell Schedule
- Set up Periods 2 - 6 with the correct start and end times
- Periods 1 & 7 are not used for the B day Bell Schedule
For the C day, an admin would:
- Create an C day Bell Schedule
- Set up Periods 3 - 7 with the correct start and end times
- Periods 1 & 2 are not used for the C day Bell Schedule
