This month we're making our last updates and changes to Enriching Students for this school year. We have a new feature for students, for staff, and a few important ones for admins for you to check out below. Have a great rest of the school year!
Students - More Feedback When they Can't Create Appointments
This is a new update we've added for students. If a student tries to schedule or request an appointment that is blocked, they will now see the blocked reason on their Scheduled Courses page when looking through the courses they can select. See an example in the image below.
Staff Working With Appointment Requests
When a student makes an appointment request, the staffer has the option from their Appointment Request page to schedule the student. However, it hasn't been possible to overwrite an existing appointment from that page.
This release includes the ability to schedule a student to the requested day and to overwrite an existing appointment. Here's how it works.
A student makes a request to see their Science teacher, Mr. Lamontagne. But, in the meantime Mr. Gerken schedule this student for the same date and period. Mr. Lamontagne sees the student's request notifcation and goes to the Requests page.
On this page, he sees a note stating that this student has already been scheduled. From here, Mr. LaMontagne can click the note to see expanded options.
If Mr. LaMontagne feels the student really does need to see him, he would click the 'Schedule' button, which would overwrite the appointment Mr. Gerken had made. 'Hide' will collapse these details.
If Mr. LaMontagne didn't want to overwrite this existing appointment, he could ignore the request or cancel it.
There are some exceptions that apply to this - they are the same exceptions that apply to overwriting appointments. Only an admin can overwrite another admin's appointment. If a scheduled appointment is locked, it can only be overwritten by the scheduler, or instructor of the scheduled course.
Adjustment for Importing Grades
We are truncating grade values that are decimal values. Schools that use values like 65.14 or 84.99, were really having trouble managing the grade values in ES. Within ES, that level of detail simply isn't needed. So to make it easier for admins to manage the grades in ES, we are removing everything to the right of the decimal. So 65.14 becomes 65 and 84.99 becomes 84.
Configuration Feedback
We've added some feedback on the configuration page to let you know if the choices you're making are in line with your data.
Graduation Year Settings
We allow you to set the start and end graduation years within Enriching Students. Sometimes though, the options selected don't match up with the values associated with the students. So now when you set the graduation years, if the values you set are different than the actual data we have, the application will let you know. You still have the ability to set the values that you want, we just let you know if it's not in line with the data we have from you.
Display Adjusted Offerings Only
This feature will limit the courses that students see to being adjusted offerings only. When this option is activated, we check out for the next 30 days to determine the number of staff that have no offerings in that time frame. If the value is greater than 0, we display it.
Again, you can still activate the feature. However, if you see a large number, you might want to confirm that the staff know they need to create adjusted offerings in order for the students to be able to schedule.
Bug Fix
There were situations that were causing some courses to not be available for student requesting/scheduling. That issue has been resolved.
